I have lived in Botetourt County, Virginia for over 35 years, making art from my home studio, as well as teaching at Hollins University, where I am currently a Professor of art.
I have worked in a variety of media, with a focus in printmaking, drawing and painting. My art work is inspired by the natural beauty of area, and my many gardens, which surround the house and the studio. I aim to express the spirit and vitality of life that exists in nature.
- During my sabbatical leaves from teaching at Hollins, I have travelled extensively to experience foreign cultures through making drawings and paintings. These travels have included living in Paris, Oslo, Kyoto, Greece, and Malaysia, as well as having traveled the length of the Trans-Siberian Railroad.
My work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, as well as in Oslo, Paris, Kyoto, the Soviet Union and Australia.
- I have received numerous awards for my work, including the prestigious "2011 Perry F. Kendig, Outstanding Visual Artists Award" bestowed by The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge, in Roanoke Virginia.
