Loli Red Shoes was drummed up when Loli, my partner and I, drove our Pale Blue Mustang around California and broke down in Death Valley at 40 degrees with the radiator exploding boiling water all over the place. We had to stop and wait for the radiator to cool down. We stopped in this dry, arid desert place where there was evidence of an old windmill and in the distance modern wind farm windmills – it was incongruous so in a way was the Retro car being as old and new in a similar way. I had this idea to shoot Loli lying back in the seat with her legs and hands up in the air from a lower perspective so that we couldn't see in but all we saw was what we imagined might be going on beneath the surface! This photo sells particularly well in the USA as its fun, patriotic in the USA flag colours red white & blue and is their classic old American car that was all the rage in those nostalgic days. The technique used to give the image a retro feel was a filter I had made up by Hasselblad as it was of a very high standard – It softened the sharp image but didn't take away the resolution of the file – I used this technique in my filming career too specially working with skin in a beauty sense as it made the skin glow and appear so soft – I used this Hasselblad soft filter on my Nikon D850 with a 24-70ml - F2.8 zoom lens.
